Victim Assistance

Victim Assistance and Resources

In addition to prosecuting crimes in Waller County, the DA’s Office also offers victim assistance and resources. We work with victims and witnesses in criminal cases to help them through the trial process, to inform them of relevant updates, and to help them cope with mental, physical, and financial harm.

Victim Impact Statement

The Texas Victim Impact Statement (VIS) gives victims a voice for detailing the emotional, physical, psychological, and financial impact the crime had on him or her, family members, and other loved ones. It provides information about your rights as a victim and gives you a formal way to explain how you and your family were effected by the crime. It is also used to collect contact information so that victim service and criminal justice professionals can notify you of changes regarding the case including parole, probation, and offender release.

The Victim Assistant Coordinator is responsible for supplying victims a VIS form and for working with him or her to complete it. It is used by the District Attorney’s Office in considering sentencing recommendations and plea agreements. And after a conviction, the VIS travels with the offender as part of his or her criminal file.

How to Change Contact Information on a Victim Impact Statement

If you need to change your contact information with the TDCJ Victim Services Division after an offender is sentenced, you can call them at (800) 848-4284. If the offender was sentenced to County Jail, contact us at the Waller County DA’s Office.
