Hempstead Man Guilty of Sexual Assault
(Victim who is now an adult has requested the identity of the perpetrator be withheld for the victim’s own privacy.)
On Thursday, February 24th, a jury of 12 men and women in the 506th Judicial District Court of Waller County, Texas returned a guilty verdict against a 33 year old Hempstead man for the felony offense of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child under the age of 14. The defendant has elected to be sentenced by the Honorable Gary Chaney, Judge of the 506th Judicial Court later this spring. He faces a minimum of 25 years in prison, up to life in prison. The D.A.’s Office was represented by A.D.A.’s Sean Whittmore and Mia Magness.
Unfortunately, this is the third such case in the last three months where individuals from Waller County have been convicted of molesting/sexually assaulting children. Most of these types of cases involve predators looking for children in their own families/social circles to exploit.
Take the time to educate your own children on what is appropriate/inappropriate touching and encourage them to demand others respect their bodies. In familial situations it can be the hardest, not wanting to believe a brother/uncle/dad/grandmother/aunt could do such a thing, but it does happen much too frequently. Keep an open mind when a child confides in you. Don’t shame them and don’t interrogate them. Call your local law enforcement agency as quickly as possible so that a professional can get involved to ensure the child is appropriately interviewed.
